After high school everybody heads to college today because that’s what everyone’s supposed to do. The last few generations have grown up with higher education being the next step in growing up, but there are most reasons for college than just following the norm.
Learning is one of them. Humans always want to learn more even despite after-finals sentiments. At university there are many fields of study available. As a student you can pick just about anything you want to learn about. Ethnic Chinese dance? Sure. Police Methodology? Of course. Abstract physics? If you really want to. Anything and everything that can be studied is available.
After graduation you are going to have to find a way to support yourself. That’s where the college degree can really come in handy. Here are a few careers that require a university diploma and will certainly make it worth your while.
Spy - No, seriously! The CIA requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from all applicants to their clandestine service. Higher education is always helpful, and being versed in foreign languages certainly will help you get noticed. Paying a standard government salary of $58,000-$84,000, it’s not the highest paying vocation but hey, you get to say you work for CIA. It's probably better you don’t say it though. It might ruin your job.
Architect - Architecture can be a lucrative field and it is as much an art as a science. Once armed with a degree you can get out and start designing, building and earning. With the average salary sitting at around $104,000 it’s a very nice place to be. Architects are tasked with thinking up, planning and overseeing the construction of buildings, oil rigs, ranches, mines, and every other man-made structure.
Orthodontist - The word orthodontics comes from two Greek words. Orthos, which means straight or proper, and odous, which is tooth. For a person to become an orthodontist they need to complete an undergraduate degree from a recognized university and then go on to complete dental school. Once this is complete they then have to spend another two or three years doing post-graduate study in the field of orthodontics. That means an orthodontist has studied and practiced for at least 10 years and knows what they are doing. That’s a lot of time in school, and it pays off: orthodontists can pretty much write their own ticket.
Podiatrist - -Another great medical field is podiatry. The downside right from the start is spending your day working on people’s feet. As long as that doesn’t bother you, you’re good to go! If it does bother you not even the $131,000 standard salary will make it worthwhile. Podiatrists go through at least ninety undergrad hours before being eligible to apply for a podiatric college. They must also pass the MCAT and after graduation be certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
